Hi! I’m Kristy. I’ve been editing and proofreading since 2008 and indexing since 2015. I work with both publishers and independent authors, specializing in non-fiction publications and scholarly/academic books and journals in the humanities and social sciences.

My body of work consists largely of scholarly/academic and non-fiction publications, including journal articles, full-length books, theses/dissertations, and newsletters. I also have experience editing genre fiction – namely, Fantasy and Horror.

I have two bachelor’s degrees: one in English Language and Literature and one in Psychology, both from the University of Windsor. Due to my studies in these areas, I have extensive knowledge of the subject matter. While attending UWindsor, I also minored in Sociology, and I completed additional courses in Anthropology, Geology, Biology, Arts Management, and Gender Studies.

I have completed the Publishing Certificate program through the Chang School of Continuing Education at X University (previously Ryerson), as well. I excelled in my courses, which included Grammar, Copy Editing, Stylistic Editing, Proofreading, Indexing, and Production.

Before going full-time freelance, I worked a contract position as Academic/Non-Fiction Editor at The Editing Company in Toronto. My work included copy editing scholarly books and dissertations, tidying manuscripts after authors responded to queries and made revisions, and contributing to blog posts.

I also worked in-house at the University of Toronto Press for the XML/Digital Workflow division, P-Shift. During my time there, I was in charge of project review and coordination, preparing manuscripts for copy editing and typesetting, managing production/typesetting for client books, and creating e-books. Through my job at UTP, I gained a thorough understanding of scholarly publishing and the book and journal publishing process.

Before I worked full time at the University of Toronto Press, I completed a Production/Editorial Internship at UTP’s Journals Division. During my internship, I gained plenty of copy editing experience, working on various journals including Physiotherapy Canada, the Journal of Veterinary Medical Education, Canadian Review of American Studies, and University of Toronto Quarterly, as well as daily blog posts. I also proofread a great deal of articles and full issues of journals, including material published in the Journal of Veterinary Medical Education, the Canadian Review of American Studies, the Canadian Journal of Criminology and Criminal Justice, and the Canadian Journal of Program Evaluation.
